Case Studies

1. Overview

Our intention for this project was to create a website that conveyed a certain amount of creativity with a unique aesthetic.

We wanted the site to show how we are able to take an imaginative approach to creating design solutions while still placing the need for strong functionality at the forefront of our considerations.

2. Research

It was decided early on that we wanted to take a playful approach to the project.

Our research lead us to focus on Japanese anime and illustration. Vintage American signs also appealed to us with their bright colors and stylized typefaces.

3. Developing a concept

While we were happy to show our influences in this project, we also wanted to avoid an end result that would be seen as solely 'retrospective'. It was equally important to show that we were an agency that was up to date and current.

It was felt that some of our earlier concepts were beginning to mirror a specific era of design which is something that we wanted to pull away from in order to embrace something with a more 'universal appeal'.

4. Choosing from among the possibilities

It was originally our intention to only use illustration as a means to convey our ideas. It was assumed that the hand drawn elements would eventually be discarded for a tighter, more mechanical approach.

We quickly found that the original illustration concepts held the exact amount of vibrancy that we were looking for and presented our idea of 'custom design' in the strongest way. For this reason, we felt that it was viable for them to be a part of the final concept.

5. Outcome

The eventual outcome was a project that we felt achieved all of its original objectives that we set out to achieve.

This is a project that we aim to develop through time as we continue to identify ways in which we can implement constant improvements to the site.

Case Study 2

1. Overview

The owner of New Life Vitamins approached us earlier this year with a view to re-designing his website.

Our main objective was to create a website that would reflect the professional aspects of his company and the reliability of his products.

It would be important for his site to be user friendly with a strong sense of information architecture.

Case Study 2

2. Developing a concept

As well as being assigned the task of creating a new website, we were also responsible for developing a new logo identity.

It was important to establish a strong visual identity in order to establish a general aesthetic for the website.

Case Study 2

Case Study 2

3. Choosing from among the possibilities

The final logo that we eventually settled on was one that both the client and ourselves felt was the most simple and also the one that best represented the values and mood of the company in general.

With the website, we settled on a design that was primarily motivated by a desire to create a fluent user experience as opposed to focusing on a design that worked purely in an aesthetic sense.

Case Study 2

4. Outcome

The main objective for New Life Vitamins was to create a user friendly experience that would also be set out with a view to embracing a more interactive relationship with the user.

There was also a large amount of attention paid to the objective of being able to help navigate the customer towards the relevant product and ultimately, the relevant purchase.

Case Study 3

1. Overview

Kingfisher Globe is a global partnership aimed at encouraging the younger generation to "impact their sphere with the principles, resources and passion of the Kingdom of God."

They approached us with a view to us not only creating them a strong web presence but to also create a visual identity that would reflect their values and core objectives.

Case Study 3

Case Study 3

2. Developing a concept

Our first task was to create a strong logo that would reflect the overall message of Kingfisher Globe and also incorporate the image of a a kingfisher bird and a sphere.

This was a bit of a challenge but it was also fun to sit down and work it out.

Case Study 3

Case Study 3

3. Choosing from among the possibilities

We eventually settled on the idea of depicting the bird in a way that suggested it was wrapped around a globe.

This was done in order to reflect the idea that the Kingfisher Globe Partnership will have a world-wide influence.

For the website itself, we opted for a style that had a corporate feel, was simply set out and easy to navigate.

Case Study 3

Case Study 3

4. Outcome

The Kingfisher Globe website was a challenge in the sense that we were essentially starting the whole project from scratch with very little reference material.

What we felt made this project a success was our ability to strike a balance between having a corporate, professional looking site and still being able to appeal to a younger audience.

Advanced Communication LLC is a provider of digital phone systems, voice, data services and data networking systems.

The client approached us with a view to updating his current website that they felt was in need of a fresher, more professional look.

Case Study 4

Case Study 4

2. Research

Above all else, the client desired a website that possessed a clean aesthetic, was easy to navigate and presented the content in a clear yet dynamic fashion.

In the early stages of the project, we spent our time researching other websites on the internet that we felt possessed these qualities.

We were then able to allow our research to influence our creative approach.

3. Logo Identity

With many of our projects that we undertake, we are often required to create or update the client's logo identity.

This project was no different. It was felt that their existing logo did not effectively reflect the company's desired image of being a high quality company.

We were required to retain the original icon that made up part of the logo but were free to experiment with the text layout.

Case Study 4

Case Study 4

4. Choosing from among the possibilities

Settling on a design concept that had a dynamic aesthetic with a strong sense of information architecture was always a primary objective.

5. Outcome

When working on a project that has the task of presenting a high level of content, it is crucial to ensure that the design you're developing can effectively present the content as opposed to detracting from it.

With Advanced Communications, we feel that we have created a fresher web presence for the client that is clean, user friendly and not over complicated.

Case Study 5

1. Overview

We were approached by the developers of Pure Living, a luxury, upscale community to re-design their website.

Our main objective was to create a website that would reflect the Pure Living lifestyle, with a heavy emphasis on beautiful photography.

The site needed to be user friendly and encourage visitors to contact the leasing office and arrange a viewing.

Case Study 5

Case Study 5

2. Developing a concept

During the site re-design, it became apparent that the current community site plan would not complement the new website.

We took the original architectural plans and an aerial photo to produce a full color, detailed illustration which would give a much better representation of Pure Living.

Before and after images show what the client had originally and the finished illustration by Swish Digital.

Case Study 5

Case Study 5

3. Choosing from among the possibilities

We created a color palette and mood board which were used to influence our designs. We gave the client various layout options which reflected the architecture at Pure Living.

A final design was chosen by the client. The resulting design was a clean, contemporary look which showcased the community beautifully.

Case Study 5

Case Study 5

4. Outcome

The main objective for Pure Living was to create a user friendly experience that would leave the end user with an "I want to live there" reaction.

There was a strong need to get the end user to contact the Pure Living leasing team. This was achieved by creating an online experience of the Pure Living Lifestyle, showcasing the wonderful amenities and beautiful apartments.

Case Study 6

1. Overview

Deadbeat Hunters is a new company that specializes in exposing Fathers that avoid providing financial support to their children.

They approached us with a view to us designing a fresh website which would have a particular look and feel.

Case Study 6

Case Study 6

2. Research

The client desired a look and feel that would not come across as too serious or too formal.

The client was keen for us to look towards "Warner Brothers" animated cartoons for our creative inspiration.

They felt that this would help lighten a serious subject.

Case Study 6

Case Study 6

3. Logo Identity

As part of the design project, we were tasked with creating an illustrated character that would be used as part of the company's logo identity.

We started sketching out some ideas in pencil to see how easily we could capture the look and feel that we were striving towards.

Case Study 6

Case Study 6

4. Choosing from among the possibilities

Our main challenge with a project like this is that it took its creative inspiration from such a recognizable brand (Looney Tunes) and to take influence from our sources while managing to create an individual feel.

It is always a tricky balance to strike but one that we feel we achieved.

Case Study 6

Case Study 6

5. Outcome

When working on a project such as this one that seeks to incorporate a friendly, light approach, it is even more important to ensure that the content is presented in a clear fashion that quickly gets its message across.

It's important to remember that an engaging design should never detract from the message that you're trying to convey.
