Yesterday, we shared 5 Facebook marketing methods to avoid for pages but know there are much more than this. We thought it would be great to continue on to share more Facebook marketing mistakes to add, especially for those in the beginning stages of this social network.
1. Long winded posts.
Months ago, Facebook allowed to increase the character limit, in the range of Google+… enough to write a small novel. Why someone would want to write this much is beyond most of our curiosities but a recent study by Buddy Media has shown that Facebook posts with less than 80 characters have a better chance of being read than those that are more than 80 characters.
Better to keep it shorter… and conveying your message as briefly as possible.
2. It’s NOT about the “Likes.”
As much as we want everyone to ‘like’ our fanpage, they won’t. With this in mind, many have come to believe that locating a company to buy fans and followers is a good idea… but it’s not.
The metrics are then skewed and shows also that there is a miniscule engagement rate, which is what we all want. The more people “talking about” us and engaging on our page, the more appealing to people that come to your page.
Another key point is that only about 13% of your page’s members will see your posts. With skewed numbers of real, active members, this means that “real” and active members are seeing less of your posts and engagement is down.
3. Posting the same type of posts over and over again…
Admit it. From time to time, we all fall back into some kind of routine…whatever it may be. Breaking this habit is just a conscious reminder to oneself to change and be purposeful about the action or activity.
The same goes for posting on Facebook. Whether it’s the same type of posts or always doing the same type of posts…change it up! Are you adding pictures? Humor? Polls? Asking questions? Polls? Posting videos? Sharing eBooks and Guides? Keep your fans and readers interested by shaking it up.
4. Not checking your Analytics on your page.
Some may not think this is important. Some may overlook this. But this free tool shares a ton of great information and should not be ignored!
The “Friends of Fans” section should make you be a little more excited about the potential growth and reach of your page. Posting engaging content and ‘shareable’ content will allow your page to be seen by the masses. At the moment, our “Friends of Fans” potential reach is over 764,300 people! The potential is there and available for all of us!
On this page, one can also see the number of “People Talking About” your page and “Weekly Reach.” If the numbers aren’t where you would like them to be… strategize to figure out how to get the numbers higher…and it can happen!
In wrapping up this two-part segment, there are many other Facebook marketing mistakes to be had but hope this has been helpful!
